First and Third Friday Wine Tastings at Dreadnought Wines and Palate Partners.
July 3rd.
How many times have you stood in a State Store, staring at shelves of wine bottles, wondering ‘will I like it after I buy it?’
For many years Palate Partners and Dreadnought Wines in Pittsburgh's Strip District have been giving wine lovers the opportunity to try specialty wines before buying them at their First and Third Friday Wine Tastings at their store at 2013 Penn Avenue.
Folks gather to sample three red and three white wines, carefully selected by owner Mike Gonze, complimented by breads and fine cheeses, and to enjoy the company of other Oenophiliacs.
Mike Gonze has taught classes for Community College of Allegheny County for over twenty years and created their wine education curriculum. Along with presenting seminars for the local Chapters of the American Wine Society, and the AWS National Conference, Mike frequently presents custom wine seminars for local corporations like Bayer, American Express and First Tier Bank. He is an active member of the Society of Wine Educators and has attended their conferences in Oregon, Seattle and Vancouver. Mike is a frequent visitor to wineries in the US, has visited wineries in the Loire Valley and the Southern Rhone regions of France, Italy and regularly attends tastings sponsored by importers, distributors, the Culinary Institute of America, and boutique wineries. Mike maintains a personal wine cellar with over 1000 bottles specializing in lesser known wines from the US and around the world.
Needless to say, Mike knows his wines. And he loves bringing that knowledge to Pittsburghers.
After sampling the Dreadnought Wines sampled for the evening, patrons can order the wines they like, and pick them up two business days later (as required by state law).
Pittsburgh wine lovers can meet and greet each other at these regular wine tastings twice monthly, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Palate Partners/Dreadnought Wines store at 2013 Penn Avenue in the Strip District. The events are open to the public at the cost of only $12.00 per person and no RSVP is necessary. For more information, call (412) 391-8502

Dreadnought Wines and Palate Partners “Grapetastic” Wine Tasting!
Friday, July 10 - 6:00 - 7:30 PM
For many years Palate Partners and Dreadnought Wines in Pittsburgh's Strip District have been giving wine lovers the opportunity to try specialty wines before buying them at their First and Third Friday Wine Tastings at their store at 2013 Penn Avenue. In a recent survey of attendees, Palate Partners asked what the Friday tasters would like to see at Palate Partner events. Many of the regular attendees commented that they would like to participate in tastings involving higher end wines. The result is that Palate Partners listened, and have created a new event that will occur on the second Friday of months containing five Fridays, called ‘Grapetastic!’.
Wine aficionados will gather to sample two red and two white wines, all averaging $30 per bottle, carefully selected by owner Mike Gonze, complimented by breads and fine cheeses, and to enjoy the company of other Oenophiliacs. Although this tasting will be as casual in nature as the Friday Wine Tastings Palate Partners have become known for, it will be more structured and informational in regard to the higher end wines. This tasting will also be limited in capacity, and only 36 tasters will be accepted, with prepaid reservations being required.
Uncorked this evening:
Mansfield Chardonnay 2007 - California
Chateau de Parenchere Bordeaux Blanc Sec 2007 - France
Chateau du Trignon Gigondas 2004 - France
McKenzie Muller Cabernet Franc 2004 - California

Wine Tasting With Winemaker Steve Felten Of Norman Vineyards
Monday, July 13, 2009, 5:00 – 7:00 PM
Dreadnought Wines, 2013 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222
$15 per person.
Please RSVP. (412) 391-8502
Dreadnought Wines in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, a licensed wine distributor representing over 150 wines from Boutique wineries worldwide, will play host to winemaker Steve Felton of Norman Vineyards for both an in-store tasting and a wine dinner at 'Toast' Kitchen and Wine Bar on Monday, July 13, 2009.
Dreadnought has carried the Norman Wines for many years, including their Cabernet, 'No Nonsense' Red, Merlot, 'Monster' Zinfandel, Barbera, Chardonnay, and 'Buzzard Tree' Zinfandel (they certainly do have a way with clever names!) and we will introduce their Buzzard Tree 'Tres Buitres' in an upcoming Wine Of The Month!
Steve Felten, with nearly 30 years of experience in winemaking, an obsessive drive for excellence and a highly discriminating palate, joined the Norman staff as winemaker. A true chemist, he believes that structure is the most significant component of wine.
The Normans had envisioned a small “family run” winery, producing perhaps a few thousand cases of wine per year, and for a couple of years their vision was realized. However, early on Norman wines received a warm welcome from their loyal customers and the wine press. With demand soaring, the Normans felt obliged to meet it, and production grew every year. By the mid-nineties they were using all of their own fruit, and began sourcing fruit from growers in the region who were selected for their excellent vineyard practices and fruit quality. Today the wines come from their home vineyards plus other growers throughout the Westside of Paso Robles. They also purchase fruit from the Cucamonga Valley and Edna Valley to round out the portfolio.
Dreadnought is pleased to host Steve's visit, and is excited about sharing him with our wine loving friends!
The evening will begin with an in-store sampling of Norman Wines, with Steve on hand to speak with Pittsburgh wine aficionados, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, at Palate Partners/Dreadnought Wines, located at 2013 Penn Avenue in the Strip District. The cost will be $15 per person and will include a variety of Norman Wines, and breads and cheeses. Interested tasters can RSVP by calling (412) 391-8502.
Following the tasting, Steve and Dreadnought will move to ‘Toast’ Kitchen and Wine Bar, located at 5102 Baum Blvd., in Shadyside, for a multi-course wine dinner, featuring 5 Norman Wines, including a dessert wine. Click HERE for more information.
