Wines Of Australia This is a class that Mike Gonze has taught for the Osher Institute of Lifelong Learning at the University of Pittsburgh for students who are 65 and older. Now the class is available for the young whippersnappers, who will enjoy Mike’s expertise of this land of diversity. For generations, the warm climate and ideal soil conditions of the Swan Valley and Margaret River areas have drawn winemakers from around the globe. Now, Western Australia's wineries are recognized as some of the best in the world, and extend from the Chapman Valley near Geraldton to the far south coast. Well, if you can’t take a trip down under, we’ll tie the kangaroo down, and give you a lesson on the beauty of grapes grown upside down. $40 per person

DUE TO THE BLIZZARD OF FEB, THIS CLASS HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED Olive Oil Tasting Class that was to be held Will now be held on Monday, March 15th at the same time. If you had reservations for the February class, they are still good for the March 15th session. Please confirm your attendance. Tasting olive oil is an art, but it can also be fun and worth learning. As in the case of the wine connoisseur and his wines, a certain amount of knowledge (and quite a lot of practice) is required to objectively classify olive oils according to taste. Culinary Institute of America alum and executive chef Deb Mortillaro will guide students through the ins and outs of the olive. With variability in quality, the olive oil consumer runs quite a risk of purchasing a second rate product, which could easily end up completely ruining the very food it is supposed to improve. A good olive oil should subtly enhance the flavors of the specific dish, not distort or overpower them. One should thus get into the habit of tasting any untried olive oil before blindly using it over one’s food. The advantages of using a good olive oil in one’s everyday cooking are legion, not only from the flavor point of view, but also because of the associated health benefits. Deb has recently done an intense study of Olive Oil at UC Davis and will share her new insight to Olive Oil. (the last class we held quickly sold out)

America has always celebrated the ‘PIONEER SPIRIT’ of the people that have made our country great. Like so many of the first settler’s of this new country there has always been a calling for a select few to take the advice of Horace Greeley and “Go West Young Man”. This month we celebrate the pioneer spirit of one of Pittsburgh’s own, Gary Eberle. Gary Eberle grew up in Moon Township and attended Penn State University where he excelled in both academics and athletics playing for Penn State under Coach Joe Paterno. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree, Gary began pursuing a graduate degree in cellular genetics at LSU. It was here that the passion for fine wine and knowledge came together resulting in a move to California and attendance at University of California at Davis. Gary was particularly interested in the Cabernet Sauvignon grape and in 1979 he produced the first vintage to carry his name. Thirty years later we can appreciate the efforts of his hard work and winemaking passion. Eberle Winery continues to thrive, remaining one of the most honored in California. The Pioneer Spirit. The Paso Robles AVA ( American Viticultural Area) is one of the finest red wine areas in California. To guide us through the evening samples we welcome our good friend Mike Gonze from Dreadnought Wines. A pioneer in his own right, Mike is the President of Dreadnought Wines where he has been educating and serving the Pittsburgh wine Reserve your place for $20.00 per person for members. Guests are welcome at $23.00 per person. DO NOT CONTACT Dreadnought Wines or Palate Partners to participate. Print and mail the following:
